Aldo's Notes #25
The One with Statistical Significance; Google vs Bing; Local SEO; Stanford's Alpaca LLM and YouTube TV's 4 screens
I have published a primer about statistical significance in digital marketing.
Statistical significance helps determine if patterns in data are meaningful or just coincidences.
It's crucial for making informed decisions in digital marketing campaigns and avoiding costly mistakes.
A/B testing, PPC campaigns, and social media engagement are examples of areas where statistical significance matters.
Set up proper tracking and define key performance indicators (KPIs) for your campaigns to measure success.
Be patient and collect enough data to accurately analyze and determine statistical significance.
Utilize online statistical significance calculators or consult experts for accurate analysis and insights.
Incorporating statistical significance into your marketing strategies leads to better optimization and improved results.
Why it matters: considering statistical significance can save you from making costly mistakes and lead to more effective marketing strategies.

I have also published a quick guide on Mastering SEO for Google and Bing
Google's algorithm prioritizes relevance and user experience, while Bing focuses on exact keyword matches and domain age.
For keywords, balance Google's intent-driven approach with Bing's preference for exact matches.
Build high-quality backlinks to satisfy both Google's quality focus and Bing's appreciation for quantity.
Maintain a strong social media presence, as Bing factors in social signals more openly than Google.
Include multimedia content like images and videos, as Bing gives extra importance to them compared to Google.
Utilize local SEO tools like Google My Business and Bing Places for Business to optimize for location-based queries on both search engines.
Pay attention to technical SEO aspects, such as page speed and mobile-friendliness, to cater to the preferences of both Google and Bing.
Bottom line: depending on your target audience, mastering either search engine is vital for the success of your website

Revolutionary $600 AI Model Shakes Up Industry
A new language model called Alpaca was released by Stanford.
Alpaca behaves similarly to OpenAI’s DaVinci 3 but is much smaller and cheaper (under $600)
The cost reduction is significant and unexpected, happening much faster than predictions
Alpaca was created by fine-tuning a weak open-source model from Meta using GPT-3.5
The fine-tuning process used a technique called self-instruct
Alpaca performs comparably to DaVinci 3 but is not necessarily better in all tasks
The model’s low cost raises questions about the future of expensive language models
Tech giants such as Apple, Amazon, Baidu, and Google are also developing language models
The rapid cost reduction could upend the economics of large language models
Questions arise about incentives for companies to invest in cutting-edge models if they can be cheaply reproduced
Why it’s important: Large Language Models seem to becoming cheaper at a much faster rate than previously forecasted. Massive implications for the future.
Watch Multiple Channels at Once with YouTube TV’s Multiview Feature
YouTube TV has introduced a new feature called “multiview“.
The feature allows users to watch up to four channels at once.
This feature is available on select devices.
It works by splitting the screen into four sections, with each section showing a different channel.
Multiview can be activated by tapping on the “multiview” button while watching a program and selecting the channels you want to add to the screen.
This feature is especially useful for sports fans who want to keep an eye on multiple games or matches simultaneously.
Users can customize which channels they want to watch in multiview and can switch them out at any time.
The multiview feature is currently only available in landscape mode and on select devices, but YouTube TV plans to expand its availability in the future.
Why it matters: more functionality means more engagement and time spent on app.
